The International Award for Young People Nigeria (The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award)

The International Award for Young People Nigeria (also referred to as The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award) is a global framework for non-formal education and learning, which challenges young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements and make a difference in their world. It gives 14 to 24 year olds a framework that empowers them to learn and grow through non-formal education, all while working towards globally recognized accreditation and it operates in over 130 countries worldwide.

Doveland High school have been involved with the Award since 18th October, 2017, and each year our students are being inspired to transform their lives, and are empowered with not just the confidence but the desire to create meaningful change to the school, their community, country and the world.

This award has created opportunities for us to develop skills, get physically active and experience adventure. Needless to say that the Award has played a critical role in our development outside the classroom. In the same vein, it has allowed our achievements to be consistently recognized worldwide, giving them unique international accreditation of our experiences. Young people who take part in the Award become more confident and resilient, and develop skills in areas such as communication, problem solving and leadership which in turn impacts on our communities.
